Why Reparations Matter for the Caribbean
This short video explores the historical roots of Caribbean economies, the legacy of colonialism and enslavement, and the ongoing call for reparatory justice across the region. It highlights how plantation economies extracted wealth from enslaved African peoples and Indigenous communities, while Caribbean societies continue to face the social, economic and developmental consequences of that history.
The video also introduces key elements of the CARICOM Reparations framework, including the call for a full and formal apology, debt cancellation, repatriation, cultural restoration, knowledge sharing, and institutions that support learning, dignity and repair.
